The SEAL project within the Sui Network (Testnet 1) was developed and introduced by Mysten Labs, the team behind the Sui Layer 1 blockchain. It’s a Decentralized Secrets Management (DSM) service that launched on Sui Testnet around early April 2025, aimed at bringing advanced data security to Web3 applications. Here’s a detailed rundown of SEAL based on what we know so far:
What is SEAL?
SEAL is built to tackle privacy, access control, and key management challenges in a decentralized setup. It lets you encrypt and safeguard sensitive stuff—like private keys or personal info—without relying on centralized services like AWS KMS or GCP Cloud KMS. SEAL blends onchain access control with threshold encryption to keep things secure while spreading out trust so no single point can mess it up.
